The first part of the 6km extension of Geneva tram line 15 to become a cross-border tramway has opened after 30 months of construction work.

The 2.7km (1.8-mile) extension of tram line 15 to ZIPLO was inaugurated on 9 December with many local celebrations, with revenue service starting the next day.

There are three new intermediate stops, one of which (Cherpines) will open only when the houses of the planned residential development start to be occupied.

Work on the second stage of the further extension to St-Julien-en-Genevois in France is currently blocked by appeals, but construction of the French section is underway. Work on the blocked section could start in 2025.
