Honolulu Metro handed over

The first section of the elevated automated standard-gauge metro was handed over on 9 June and passenger service is due to start between Kualaka’I (East Kapolei) to Halawa (Aloha Stadium) 17.3km on 1 July after a ceremony at 14.00 on 30 June, using 12 of 20 78m four-car trains supplied by AnsaldoBreda (now Hitachi Rail Italia). 

 

Under construction since 2011, the line was originally planned to open in 2017. The USD 9.02 bn project is financed by a local sales and hotel tax and a USD 1.55bn federal grant.
