Commercial services of the country's first underwater metro began on 15 March and the first train was graced by hundreds of eager passengers.
Running every twelve to fifteen minutes in both directions, the service has already seen more than a million passengers use the service.
The underwater section is 520 metres long and it takes the train around 45 seconds to cross through it. The under-river stretch of the line has a special illumination to showcase the water moving around it.
The 4.8km East-West Line that connects Howrah Maiden to Esplanade is now complete however construction continues on the final stretch of the line which will see it run to Sealdah and it is hoped that this will open soon.
