The 10.1km standard-gauge tram line T5 along the west bank of the Golden Horn on the European side in Istanbul was completed on 30 August with the opening for passenger service of the 900m extension from Cibali to Eminönü, featuring a short subway to permit interchange with line T1 (no track connection).

The line T5 now operates from Eminönü to Alibeyköy bus station with 14 stops (including interchange with metro line M7), the original section having opened on 1 January 2021.

The whole line uses the Alstom APS surface current collection system, licensed for the first time to an alternative vehicle manufacturer.

T5 is served by 30 five-section Durmazlar double-ended 100% low-floor articulated trams that carry about 114 000 passengers/day.
