The Polish city of Lodz has launched a tendering exercise for the purchase of 15 new low-floor five-section single-ended air-conditioned trams, with the option of a further 15.
Bids must be received by 29 May and delivery is required within 18 months. 50% of the order by value must be supplied from within the European Union.
The trams will be in the range 28-33m in length and 2.4m wide with the low floor accounting for 80% of the length; five 1.3m width double-leaf doors are required with a folding platform for wheelchair users at the first door.
Bicycle racks are required in the rear portion. Rotating bogies are should be provided at each end. Five vehicles will be capable of adaption for driving school purposes.
The 18-month delivery timescale will pose problems for many establishe4d suppliers, but perhaps not for Modertrans, the Polish rolling stock company based in the former Poznan tram workshops.
The company completed delivery of a batch of 30 Moderns Gamma LF06AC trams to Lodz in December 2023, and the specification of the new tender matches these.
