The last remaining tram of the initial fleet of sixteen AnsaldoBreda cars, Midlands Metro 16, delivered in March 1999 and withdrawn from service in August 2015, was removed from storage at Long Marston on 24 November and taken to the Very Light Rail Innovation Centre at Dudley.
It is expected to become a test tram, receiving new equipment.
The Dudley site, that is also being used to effect structural repair to the current fleet of CAF Urbos trams, features a 2.2km test track with an 870m curved tunnel, 250m vertical hump and bespoke charging system for the Coventry VLR vehicle, which is undergoing 12 months of trials there.
