Santiago de los Caballeros is the second-largest city in the Dominican Republic with around 590 000 inhabitants.

A consortium formed by Alstom and Sofratesa has been selected to deliver rolling stock and systems for the 13.2km elevated monorail linking Cienfuegos and Villa Olympic under a contract worth EUR 500M.

Delivery of 13 four car Innovia trains will take place in 2025, with the expectation that passenger service can start before the end of that year. The line will have 14 stations and carry up to 200 000 passengers/hour/direction.

In addition to the trains, Alstom will install its Cityflo 650 GOA4 driverless signalling system and depot equipment. Alstom’s share of the contract is around EUR 370M. The project is being carried out with financial support from the French government.
