SacRt orders additional nine S700 light rail vehicles from Siemens Mobility (Siemens Mobility)
Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) has made an order of nine more vehicles from Siemens Mobility, bringing the total ordered to 45.

SacRT's contract with Siemens is for the purchase of up to 76 new low-floor light rail vehicles.

The new vehicles will have platform boarding at every doorway to allow for better accesibility as well as each vehicle having four dedicated wheelchair locations. More space has been allowed through better seating design and larger windows allow for better light and views for passengers. As well as temperature control facilities and predictive maintanance systems, it is hoped that the vehicls will offer a better rate of reliability.

Siemens has already delivered 20 S700 low-floor light rail vehicles to SacRT's light rail facility in Northern Sacramento where they are being subject to rigorous safety tests. The vehicles are due to enter service in the summer of 2024.

'We are grateful to Sacramento Regional Transit for this latest order of nin light rail vehicles and excited to continue our long standing partnership. Bringing SacRT's fleet of S700 light rail vehicles to 45 new low-floor vehicles is an exciting feat that highlights our dedicaton to the region. These American made trains will be built right here in Sacramento by our team of more than 2,500 will help to elevate rail travel in our community' said Michael Cahill, president of rolling stock, Siemens Mobility North America.

The Blue Line will continue to operate the current high floor trains and construction on the platforms to meet the low-floor tram height is due to be completed in 2027.
