Due to start in April 2024, Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) are planning to spark a multi-year rehabilitation program by investing more than USD 150M to secure the safety, reliability and longevity of its light rail infrastructure.  
 
By combining multiple projects, the plan is to streamline operations, maximise efficiency and minimise travel disruption.  
 
The projects include repairing the concrete rail foundations in the subways, replacing more than 10,000 feet of track and updating level crosings across the system. Many of these projacts have been fully funded. 
 
'These projects are an important investment in our region's future. By fortifying our light rail system, we're building a stronger, safer and more reliable foundation for years to come.' said PRT CEO Katherine Kelleman.  
 
The projects are set to continue until 2028.
