The 400m link Rodoviária–Terminal Intermodal Gentileza (TIG) for VLT Carioca tram lines 1 and 4 was opened on 26 February after a ceremony on 23 February attended by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. 
 
TIG permits transfer to BRT lines 1 and 4 and to 14 bus lines and is expected to be used by 150 000 passengers/day. The project cost was BRR 300M under a PPP contract with the Banco do Brasil. The TIG site is part of the legacy of the 2016 Olympic Games. Service is provided 06.00-24.00. 
 
VLT Carioca is a surface tramway in the centre of Rio de Janeiro with four lines covering 28.4km. It was inaugurated on 5 June 2016 and uses 32 Alstom Citadis 402 44m trams featuring ground level power supply (APS) over 80% of the network and battery operation over the remainder.
