The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System's Board of Directors has approved a USD243.3 million capital investment budget for 2025's fiscal year - the largest in the agency's history.

78% of the budget will help to maintain bus and rail systems and keep them in a good condition, followed by facility and construction, rail infrastructure improvements and other major initiatives. A total of 64 projects will benefit from the funding including 22 new trolley vehicles to replace its aging fleet and trolley and bus maintenance and construction projects.

Stephen Whitburn, San Diego MTS chair and San Diego City Council member said, 'Prioritising this capital investment in our transit agency will help increase ridership and keep San Diego's transit system in good working condition with modern amenities and well-maintained vehicles. This is the largest capital improvement program in agency history and it speaks to our growth and the commitment our region has for transit.'
