On 1 December the Chinese city of Shanghai unveiled the first train for its future Airport Express metro at the CRRC Changchun factory that is building the stock. 
 
This is the first Type C metro train, with a maximum speed of 160km/h. The 68.6km line will have just nine stations and should be carrying passengers before the end of 2024, with a journey time between Hongqiao Airport and Pudong Airport of 40 minutes. 
 
The line will serve Shanghai East railway station. At the moment the airport is served by metro line 2 with a journey time of 90 minutes. 
 
There is also the Shanghai Transrapid maglev service, but this runs only to the outskirts of the city (Longyang Road), an interchange with metro lines 2, 7, 16 and 18, and requires an additional fare of RMB 50.
