On 29 November the Bi-State Development Agency in the US city of St Louis signed a contract with Siemens Mobility for the supply of up to 55 new LRVs worth USD 390.4M, part funded by a USD 196.4M federal grant.

A firm order is for 24 cars with 31 on option. They will start to replace the system’s original 31 LRVs dating from the opening of the first line in 1993, and provide for the extension to MidAmerica St Louis Airport, under construction for completion in 2025.

The 46-mile (74km) system carries about 6.7M passengers/year on its two lines, with 87 Siemens SD-400 and SD-450 cars.
