The EUR 61.7M, 2km extension of tram line 3 from Pynikintori to Santalahti with three new stops was opened on 7 August.

The day was marked by high winds that caused interruption of electricity supply in the city for a short period, but delayed trams for only 10’. Further extension from Santalahti to Lentävänniemi (6.1km) is due to open in January 2025.

Tampere is Finland’s fourth largest city and tramway operation started on 9 August 2021 using 19 Skoda Transtech ForCity Smart Artic X34 37.3m trams. The system has carried 27M passengers in its first two years, with 50 000/day now being carried.
