The next generation of trams for Zagreb. (Koncar)
The Croatian city (population 806 000) has placed a EUR 37.8M contract with Koncar for 20 new TMK2400 three-section trams for delivery in 2025, with an option for up to 60 more. Koncar was the only bidder.
The capital operates a 54.2km, 15-line, metre-gauge system worked by 240 trams. The last new trams, and the first low-floor cars, were delivered by the Crotram consortium (that included Koncar) in 2005-2010, but older high-floor cars, including Tatra T4 dating from 1977-83 remain in service, and will now be replaced.
Koncar Electric Vehicles is a Croatian company founded in 1970 and based in Zagreb. In addition to building trams for Zagreb through the Crotram consortium, it has recently supplied 12 low-floor trams to the Latvian city of Liepaja.
